The UHCL Student Leader Banquet, hosted by the Student Life Office is a program designed to recognize outstanding leaders, student organizations, and student program accomplishments. The program includes

  • A fixed 3-course meal
    • The general meal includes salad with dressing, chicken entrée with a starch, vegetable, warm rolls and butter, and a dessert pie.
    • The dietary meal includes grilled Portobello mushrooms, approved assorted vegetables, asparagus and steamed rice with black beans. The dietary meal is vegan, gluten, dairy, shell-fish, and nut free.
  • Awards presentation

  • An awards dance

We encourage your participation and support of the Student Leadership Banquet. It is a wonderful opportunity for the UHCL community to recognize the amazing student leaders and organizations.

Event Pricing

Tickets may be purchased in the Student Life Office. The table reservation requires the full name and email of each ticket holder.

Early Bird Tickets

Early Bird tickets are available in Student Life March 9 - 30, 2018

  • Student Leaders, Advisors, and their guests:  $35 per ticket
  • Faculty, Staff, and their guests:  $40 per ticket
  • Student Organization Table (8-seat pack):  $250 per table

General Admission Tickets

General Admission tickets are available April 2 - 13, 2018

  • Student Leaders, Advisors, and their guests:  $45 per ticket
  • Faculty, Staff, and their guests:  $50 per ticket

A student organization that has successfully planned and executed an event centered on educating the student body on a variety of cultural backgrounds and traditions.

Most Improved Organization Form

Recognizing a student organization for its restoration efforts in increasing membership, activity, and visibility at UHCL and in the community.

  • Organization was nearly dormant or very inactive in the year prior
  • Notable growth through recruiting efforts, programming efforts and leadership
  • Hosts somewhat of a variety of events – professional development (or event that addresses the group’s mission and goals), recruiting, fundraising, social, etc. – not just a one-shot event and then nothing else during the year

Celebrating officers or specialized teams within a student organization for their ability to work together in a cohesive and efficient way that compliments the organization’s mission and goals.

  • Everyone sees them as a team and not as individuals
  • Not necessarily given every year, only when circumstances warrant

Recognizing visible and supportive registered student organization advisors.

  • Advisor active with student organization (not one that exists in name only)
  • Advisor has been visible at events or programs.
  • Advisor has demonstrated a high level of support beyond the agreed role and scope between the organization and individual.
  Distinguished Leader Award
 

Distinguished Leader Form

Recognizing a student that has successfully demonstrated a high level of leadership during their time here at UHCL.

  • The one student who has contributed the most to the UHCL community
  • Active in a wide range of activities with the purpose of improving the quality of life for UHCL students
  • Models exemplary leadership characteristics
  • Has a guiding vision and influences others to embrace that vision
  • Is a team player
  • Mentors future leaders
  • Sets goals and follows through
  Emerging Leader Award
 

Emerging Leader Form

Recognizing UHCL future leaders on campus.

  • New to UHCL, becomes active after no more than two semesters after starting at UHCL
  • Actively participates in SLO workshops, Student Life Fair, organization and/or committee, SGA, in Orientation, the leadership conference, Student Leadership Institute, etc.
  • Demonstrates willingness/eagerness to become more involved in increasing leadership roles
  • Award maybe given to a maximum of four (4) students.
  Outstanding Leader Award
 

Outstanding Leader Form

Recognizing strong organization presidents that are graduating this academic year.

  • President of an active organization (not one that exists in name only)
  • President has been consistently outstanding during his/her tenure
  • President visible at organization events including but not limited to: 
     - Organization created events
     - Student Life events and programs
     - Orientation programs
     - Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs
  • Award may be given to a maximum of four (4) students.

Award Selection Process

All nominations are confidential. Once submitted, applications that meet the requirements are distributed to the Banquet Award Committee who selects the top 3 to 4 nominations (excluding the Peer’s Choice awards, which are determined by the student organizations). Nominees are contacted and encouraged to attend the Student Leadership Banquet.

A nomination ballot is created and each active member of the Banquet Awards Committee casts their vote. Votes are tallied and the recipients are announced at the banquet. Not even the committee members know the recipients until the night of the banquet.

The Banquet Awards Committee consists of representatives from the Student Life Office (all program areas), Office of Student Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Office of Orientation and New Student Programs.
