Online Operations through April 30

Following the extension of the Harris County “Stay Home, Work Safe” order through April 30, we will continue to offer classes and support services online and alternative formats. 

Summer Classes Moving Online

April 2, 2020, 6:50 p.m.
All summer classes scheduled to start before July 1 (May Mini, 8-week and 5-week sessions) will be conducted online or via alternative format. We will continue to monitor the impact of the pandemic and will determine by the end of April whether summer classes after July 1 can return to their regular format.

Spring 2020 Interim Grading Option Update

UH-Clear Lake is implementing an interim grading policy for the spring 2020 semester that allows students to choose a satisfactory/unsatisfactory grading scheme to address the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Campus Operations to Move Online Through April 3

Following the order from Harris County, and to protect the health and safety of the UHCL community, all campus operations will continue online, and access to campus will be limited to only essential personnel through April 3. Stay home and stay safe, Hawks.

Student Support Services Update

Student support services are offering services in person and online to continue supporting you during this time, whether you need extra help with class assignments or mental health resources. Check out the Support Services Directory online for more info.

Spring Commencement Is Postponed

March 20, 5:29 p.m.
Spring Commencement, currently scheduled for May 17, 2020, will be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and government restrictions on public gatherings. There are plans for a late summer or early fall commencement as soon as public health conditions and operational guidelines allow. Delaying the commencement ceremonies will not delay the actual awarding of degrees to May graduates.

Recreation and Wellness Center to Close

March 18, 11:43 a.m.
Effective Thursday, March 19, the UHCL Recreation and Wellness Center will cease operation until further notice. More information will be sent via email to all students and community members.

New Travel Guidelines

The university encourages students, faculty, and staff to find alternate means of conducting their studies and business associated with non-essential travel. View current Travel Guidelines for more information.

COVID-19 Cyber Scams

March 13, 9:40 a.m.
The Department of Homeland Security has issued an advisory warning of scams involving COVID-19, and the UH System Information Security Office is already seeing phishing messages being received by faculty, staff and students. If you receive a suspicious phishing email to your UHCL email account, notify security@uhcl.edu, and be aware of the following:

  • Cyber actors may send emails to trick victims into revealing sensitive information or donating to fraudulent charities or causes.
  • Exercise caution in handling such emails— avoid clicking on links and downloading attachments.
  • Be wary of social media pleas, texts or calls related to COVID-19.
  • Do not reveal personal or financial information in email, and do not respond to email solicitations for this information.
