Student Jobs

Find a Job to Help You Succeed

Another benefit to the PSC Learning Community is the opportunity to help your peers or faculty members as a peer mentor or research assistant, respectively. Off-campus internships are also available.

To be eligible to apply for a student employee position, you must:

  • Be Hispanic/Latino OR reside in a low-income household (Pell Grant eligible).
  • Be enrolled in a STEM program or be pursuing your teacher certification in a STEM field.
  • Be in academic good standing.
  • Have an unofficial transcript, to be obtained by STEM program director.
  Research Assistant

Research assistants are selected to work on a wide range of current research projects within a STEM field under the guidance of University of Houston-Clear Lake faculty.

Examples of current research projects include, but are not limited to:

  • Debugging video games.
  • Laboratory assistance.
  • Disproving math proofs.
  • Observing plant cell growth through magnetic fields.
  Intern

If you’re enrolled in a College of Science and Engineering program or STEM program in the College of Education, you’re eligible to apply for an internship. All internship applications and résumés are kept on file until an internship becomes available at a UHCL partnership. When an opportunity becomes available, the program director will notify you. Current UH-Clear Lake partnerships include Tietronix Software, Flow-Cal, and AtLink.

   Peer Mentor

Peer mentoring allows you to provide guidance to your peers who are also enrolled in a STEM program. You can also apply to receive mentorship as a mentee.* Each mentor is assigned approximately three mentees per semester.

The ideal peer mentor will:

  • Possess excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Be passionate about helping others.
  • Have familiarity with UHCL, with at least one semester of experience as a UHCL student.
  • Be creative problem solvers.

Responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Meeting weekly with your supervisor and other mentors.
  • Staying in touch with your mentees via face-to-face meetings, email, Facebook, text messages and/or phone calls.
  • Assisting with recruiting and programming events, workshops and other events.

*If you would like to receive mentoring, you must first apply to be part of the PSC Learning Community. Or, if you’re hired as a research assistant or intern, you’re automatically assigned a peer mentor.
